About Me

Having been born in a country different from my nationality, and then growing up in another country where I felt like an alien, I constantly wandered through open space and culture. It wasn’t until I moved to Japan a few years ago that I finally accepted my free-flowing identity.

“Words” are my love language. I believe there is so much beauty in “words” themselves, whether it be through books, poems, or lyrics. Being completely fluent in two languages (and currently learning a third), I am always amazed by the unique words in each language – words that can’t be translated because they’re part of that country’s culture. How is it that a few words (or maybe sentences) can capture all the pain and beauty in this world…?

I hope you will stick around for a while and get to know me better. Words on a screen may not capture everything completely well, but I hope you will get a glimpse into my chaotic mind that speaks too much for our current-day society.

Data Storytelling: The Hidden Faces of Homelessness in Japan (Summer ‘24)

The Hidden Faces of Homelessness in Japan

About Project: In 2024, Japan reported a significant reduction in homelessness to 2,820 individuals, the lowest since 2003, due to effective support measures. However, this statistic excludes groups like homeless youth and "jyohatsu," who disappear voluntarily. Japan's narrow definition of homelessness, focusing on those living in public spaces, contrasts with the United Nation's broader definition, which includes those lacking stable housing. This essay highlights the need for a more inclusive understanding to better support vulnerable populations through targeted assistance.
